The Headmaster

Mo

Mo is an award-winning poet and playwright who has been featured at the legendary Blue Note, Nuyorican Poets Café, BAMCafé, The Bowery Poetry Club International Fringe Festival, Joe’s Pub, and erotic reading series including Rachel Kramer Bussel’s In the Flesh, Abiola Abrams’s Kiss & Tell Live, David Henry Sterry’s Sex Workers Literati, Jefferson Bites’ Bare!, and Lori Perkins’ Ravenous Nights. He was a featured speaker, workshop leader, and performer for CatalystCon on sex-positive activism and education, 2012–2016. Mo has been interviewed by Chuck D. and Rev. Al Sharpton and featured in New York Newsday, Amsterdam News, rolling out UrbanStyle Weekly, KISS FM (NYC), XM Satellite Radio, and The Hallmark Channel. In 2006 The New York Daily News selected Mo as one of “50 Unsung New York Heroes.”

The Conductress

Maritri

Maritri is a classically trained and self-taught multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and composer. She has opened for Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, Nina Simone, and Barbra Streisand, as well as singing backup for Barbra Streisand and Michael Amante, and composed music for the Washington Ballet. She has scored several films, theater pieces, apps, and many live theater shows in New York, and traveled extensively as a solo musician and with ensembles. She currently resides in Southern California.

Jai Simone

Dubbed the luxury car of poets for her power and performances, this dynamic artist is a keynote speaker and teaches workshops on finding your voice through poetry, healing through art, empowerment, and sexuality.

Regie Cabico

A pioneer of the spoken word and the first openly queer and Asian slam poet to take top prizes in the 1993, 1994, and 1997 National Poetry Slams. Television appearances include HBO’s Def Poetry Jam and NPR’s Snap Judgement.

Toni Blackman

A pioneer of the spoken word whose work in hip hop and freestyle has carried her to stages and classrooms around the world.

Shannon Lower

A New Orleans-based actor, dancer, producer, director, and writer who has performed in the U.S., Europe, and South America. Shannon has produced numerous theatrical shows and art exhibits, including co-producing UrbanErotika with Mo Beasley and directing its tribute to Pablo Neruda at Triad NYC.

Gordon James

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, and having lived in Canada, Kenya, and the United States, Gordon graduated from Dartmouth College and holds an M.F.A. in Acting from Brooklyn College. He has performed leading roles in The Colored Museum, Six Degrees of Separation, The Island, and Tartuffe. His poetry has been published in Signifyin’ Harlem, and he has performed at the Nuyorican Poets Café, The Brooklyn Moon Café, the National Black Theater, and the Schomburg Center.
